Hi Anna, you have a beautiful and fascinating story.. I love that Layla and Ivy used dreams as a way to connect with each other (and relate to each other with their own personal problems) its such an interesting avenue to show how their problems manifest. I also love how they eventually connect back together to help each other solve their waking world burdens. Your artwork is clear and beautiful, and I love the frame especially at 0:52 with the dome of fragmented maps. They seem like such great friends in their dreams I almost want them to meet up somehow but your ending is great, them being able to tackle their/carry on with their lives awake thanks to how they helped each other in the dreamworld.. wonderful job and congratulations!

Hi Verna, yes it’s been so fun imagining things in another world where rules of gravity for example dont have to be followed and it still somehow make sense. I’m so glad you found it clear, that was something i was worried about. (Hehe I have thought about a post-credits would be scene where they come across each other, e.g. at the airport or something, and recognise each other but dont quite know where from… lots of ways that could go and fun to think about). Thanks so much! I’m glad you though so:)

Hi Anna,

I really like what you've done with your story. I remember it from one of the previous weeks. You've done a great job setting up the story but I'd love to have seen more about their interactions in their dreams and perhaps a little bit more of their waking lives to help create that contrast and conflict. For instance, what is the big decision Ivy has to make? How does Layla's lack of skateboarding skills help Ivy? How does that final dream help Ivy talk to her parents and Layla become less focused on getting good grades?

It is a lovely story, with some really sweet moments and you really get your ideas across with simplicity and style. It has been great seeing your final creation!

Hi Lauren, thanks so much for your feedback! Those questions have been so useful to hear, particularly as I’ve almost finished my images and really help how I’m going to help clarify some of those in both drawings and editing/sounds for my first pass. Thanks again!:)

The dimension that you are able to create in your drawings is really astonishing. My favorite frame is the dream connection where one of the character's comes shooting out of the tunnel on their skateboard. Great use of leading lines! I would like to see a little bit more about the conversation that happens between Layla and Ivy. What does she say that makes her open up to her parents? I know the skateboarding helps, but maybe you could include a drawing of them chatting while skateboarding? I love your drawings they are really cool and expressive!

Thank you so much for your feedback! I hadn’t originally thought about any actual talk between them, but rather being present and in each other’s company. I think actually a conversation might help too, I’ll definitely put some speech on Layla’s part to help clarify the situation. Thanks, I’ve now started considering the use of sounds and music a lot more to help (initially I didn’t want to record myself but now I’ve seen from others how useful it is!). Thanks again:)

Ahh, I love this story idea so much! Back during week one, I was exploring the concept of a story incorporating dreams and I'm so happy to have come across this one. The theme of being more open about our emotions is such a strong and relatable one, especially the overall lesson that vulnerability makes our connections stronger as well as allowing us to grow as a person. I really enjoyed viewing this project!

(this is my story spine so unfinished. I hope to finish my first pass soon)

Two girls connect across the world through their dreams. Every few nights, Ivy would enter Layla’s dreams: they’d explore and play together. One day, Ivy’s own inner struggles prevent her from connecting to Layla.

Because of that, their dreams stopped connecting, which caused their problems to build up in their minds. Ivy pretends she has everything under control and knows exactly where she is and where she’s going. Meanwhile, Layla works into the nights on homework and studying for top grades; her friends become concerned but without Ivy’s presence at night, Layla’s self-expectations grow until she lost control.

Layla remembered encouraging words from her friends, causing her to reach out and fall into Ivy’s dream. She finally entered Ivy’s dream for the first time and found Ivy trapped in her fears and struggles with choosing a career path. Layla steps into a dream-memory where Ivy felt comfortable and free, and Ivy follows; she forgets her own struggles while leading Ivy back into herself.

Since then, Ivy opened up to her parents about her confusion and fears. Layla completed her exams, but put them to the back of her mind to celebrate with friends.

Ever since then, Ivy is more open with her parents, and Layla raises her value in loved ones over perfect grades. They connect with each other’s dreams and share new outside perspectives to equally support one another.

This is where the special thanks would go!  I’m assuming they will be a little longer this week, therefore, I designed extra space for them. If there is far more description and special thanks then there is space, this entire box becomes scrollable.

Special Thanks:
